77 ft / 23m Advanced Composite Marten Marine World Cruising Ketch "LADY K"

Price: USD 1,500,000
Delivered to our design in 2003 this custom ketch, built at Marten Marine of New Zealand, is designed for unlimited blue water cruising. From the beginning many of the design decisions were influenced by the owner's desire for a boat that could sail long passages and be autonomous in remote places.

With a fully cored Kevlar/E-glass construction LADY K is light displacement, but has maximal impact strength. She also has many features to support distance sailing and easy handling by a small crew, including a well protected cockpit with shelter behind the raised pilot house. All winches, furlers and sail functions can be controlled from the cockpit and the boat can also be handled from the inside steering station.

As a ketch, the sailing loads are less than a sloop, making her easier to sail. With eased sheets however she is very fast, reaching and running under numerous sail combinations, the variety of which allow for both added safety and ease of use. The swept spreader ketch rig means that LADY K does not need any backstays and can carry a square top main and mizzen sails. The current fathead sails are easy to reef into the furling boom systems, another feature that maximizes safety and ease of handling.
The centerpiece of LADY K is the upper salon and helm station. Extensive curved and chemically strengthened and laminated glass provides panoramic views. Below deck and aft of the engine space are two guest cabins, a laundry space and a spacious owner's cabin. As one moves forward, there is an open galley and a lower salon with generous seating. Fully forward there is a built in office space, an additional guest cabin and the crew quarters.

From the start, much thought was given to practical solutions: There is for instance a purpose built well in the aft deck for the dinghy for easy deployment and which allows the transom garage to be used as great storage for spares, gear and toys. Aft steps guarantee easy access from the dinghy to the boat and swim platform. And in order to guarantee access to shallow anchorages, LADY K has a lifting keel which provides her with a draft of 12'3" (3.7m) to 6'8" (2.1m).

LADY K has only had one, very experienced owner who has kept the boat beautifully maintained. In his hands, LADY K has only gotten better and is ready for her next new adventures.
